A California county official has withdrawn plans to take authorized motion towards greater than a dozen pro-life being pregnant care facilities after reportedly receiving adverse suggestions from locals.
Vice Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Terra Lawson-Remer withdrew a proposal titled “Advancing Reproductive Rights Schooling and Pursuing Litigation to Shut Down Pretend and Fraudulent Disaster Being pregnant Facilities” that was on the agenda for the Board of Supervisors’ common assembly scheduled for Tuesday.
After asserting her intention to champion the measure, Lawson-Remer’s workplace obtained a number of telephone calls protesting the proposal, in response to the social conservative activist group California Household Council.
Final month, Lawson-Remer held a press convention to announce that she would ask the board to think about implementing a coverage that will contain suing pro-life being pregnant facilities.
If accredited, the measure would have impacted 16 native facilities, which the elected official claimed have been participating in misleading promoting to lure pregnant ladies away from abortion suppliers.
“They’re pretend facilities pretending to supply reproductive well being care recommendation to ladies,” stated Lawson-Remer, as quoted by the San Diego-based KPBS.
“Luring unsuspecting ladies into their doorways with deceptive data — ladies who’re in search of medical recommendation, in search of medical assist.”
Lawson-Remer alleged that the pro-life facilities have been “doing lots of promoting” on-line in order that “when ladies google ‘being pregnant assist’ or questions, ‘abortion, prenatal care,’ these facilities are developing within the search engine.”
Carolyn Koole, government director at Hope Clinic for Ladies in Fallbrook, took subject with the supervisor’s claims, telling KPBS that her evaluation of the pro-life facilities was inaccurate.
“If the Board actually wished to assist ladies in unsupported pregnancies, they’d be selling being pregnant facilities, not attempting to close them down,” stated Koole.
“It’s a travesty that they’re instantly focusing on facilities whose mission is to assist ladies for free of charge solely as a result of they’re pro-abortion and we aren’t.”
Dean R. Broyles, president and chief counsel of the Nationwide Middle for Regulation & Coverage, despatched a criticism letter to the supervisors board final week denouncing the proposal as “Orwellian.”
“Lawson-Remer’s proposal seeks to ascertain a authorities pro-abortion orthodoxy and monopoly in San Diego County by focusing on, destroying and eradicating pro-life being pregnant care facilities who dissent from or diverge from her private pro-abortion beliefs,” wrote Broyles.
“That isn’t the American means. San Diego County residents should stay free to assist [pregnancy care centers] and, when in want, search the help of life-affirming organizations in step with their beliefs and worldview, even when Ms. Lawson-Remer or different [board of supervisors] members disagree.”
