New E book Addresses the Nice, Grave Challenges Going through the Stone … – Christian Customary

A brand new guide designed to assist congregations and college students encounter or recuperate their Restoration roots has not too long ago been printed by Wipf and Inventory Publishers. Edited by John C. Nugent, professor of Outdated Testomony at Nice Lakes Christian Faculty, Restoration Appreciation: The Wealthy Legacy and Hopeful Way forward for the Stone-Campbell Motion invitations restorationists to rise above the partisanship of our day, rally round our core commitments, and lead out in our strengths.

“The Restoration imaginative and prescient is being examined,” stated Nugent when Christian Customary requested what motivated him to compile this guide right now. “As soon as-prominent faculties and publishing homes have closed. Restoration church buildings are closing their doorways or being absorbed by bigger congregations. Members of our thriving church buildings have little consciousness of their Restoration heritage.”

Nugent continued,

If the Restoration Motion is to proceed its important witness to the centrality of Scripture to the church’s life and the urgent want for Christians to stay united amid the polarization of our age, we have to bear in mind and discuss the place we got here from, why it can be crucial that we exist, and the way we will strengthen our witness going ahead. Restoration Appreciation facilitates such conversations by overlaying Restoration fundamentals and up to date challenges in a fashion that every one church members can learn, perceive, and interact.

The guide’s 12 chapters are a group of essays initially offered orally at GLCC. The audio system/writers embrace Jerry Harris, Christian Customary writer and educating pastor at The Crossing; Lloyd A. Knowles, professor of historical past at GLCC; and James Riley Estep, founding dean of Lincoln Christian Institute and a daily Christian Customary author.

In his Introduction, Nugent says,

The contributors to this quantity are well-aware of the good, even grave challenges going through the Stone-Campbell heritage at this time. The long-term survival of any custom requires going through new challenges—even ones that threaten the custom at its core. . . . So whereas the general tone of this guide is appreciative, these essays pull no punches. Its authors expose sore spots in our heritage, identify problematic developments, and counsel important corrections.

If taken to coronary heart, says Nugent as he closes his Introduction, the authors’ recommendations “would possibly place our church buildings to be catalysts inside the world church—empowering all Christians to start answering Jesus’ prayer that his followers unite so the world might come to know God’s love.”
