Nicosia (Agenzia Fides) – The Symposium of Church buildings within the Center East, “Rooted in Hope,” is nearing its conclusion. The initiative is promoted by R.O.A.C.O. (Reunion of Assist Companies to the Oriental Church buildings),and welcomed by the Dicastery of the Oriental Church buildings to rejoice the tenth anniversary of the post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation “Ecclesia in Medio Oriente”, signed on September 14, 2012, by Pope Benedict XVI throughout his apostolic journey to Lebanon.
The assembly, hosted in Nicosia from April 20 to 23, was attended by the Patriarchs of all of the Catholic Church buildings within the Center East, together with nuncios, bishops, clergymen, women and men spiritual, lay individuals, in addition to ambassadors and diplomatic representatives.
In his opening greeting, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Oriental Church buildings, identified how “struggling and poverty for strongly intertwined spiritual and political causes haven’t been missing within the Holy Land (understood as the entire space) of the Center East cradle of Christianity”. He continued, “We’re right here with you to pay tribute to your heroic efforts to be witnesses of our frequent religion amidst issues of every kind” on this “land of saints and above all of martyrs.” “Along with the inner and non secular oppositions which have induced frightful bloodshed amongst political contracts in these areas,” added Prefect Gugerotti, “we Westerners bear heavy tasks in destabilizing native situations, nonetheless goal it might be that our good intentions in our midst have introduced a horrible contribution to your tragedy together with one other forgetfulness, the tendency to export our tradition and demand that others conform their lives to it. We, Western Catholics, apologize for having generally indulged on this short-sighted imaginative and prescient”. Prefect Gugerotti additionally underlined that the Nicosia Convention was not supposed “to be an expression of the model described above”.
